Here's this week's focus/theme. If you have some suggestions of a topic you'd like to spend a week working on (topic, TV show, comic book, musician/genre of music, etc.) put it in the comments and we can make it happen.
Week ??? - Nov 30-Dec 4
THE TURNING POINT BOOK/MOVIE CLUB!
We're moving forward this week with The Revenant, and you should be starting Chapter 12 by now and reading up to the end of Chapter 16 by Friday. Things are getting exciting now as the chase begins! If you're interested ask to see the musket ball we have - holding it in your hand is helpful for putting this world into plain sight.
Otherwise we're moving into Research and The Research Process in the coming weeks and will begin that in class.
This week?
Monday - Credibility
Tuesday - UN Climate Change Summit Discussion
Wednesday - Research Questions
Thursday - The Revenant and Work Time
Week ??? - November 16-20 - Where did the time go?
So I blinked and it's 5 weeks until Christmas! BUT the good news is that I have broken the silence in order to announce an exciting development.
THE TURNING POINT BOOK/MOVIE CLUB!
Yup, starting this week we will be forming a 'club'. We're going to read a book (Punke's The Revenant) - many assignments can/will be completed around this work. Then, when the film comes out on Christmas Day, we'll all go see it - in January, once we're back to school. OK? We'll discuss more in class, so be sure you come in.
Here's the trailer: The Revenant
This week?
Monday - Building Basic Slide Shows
Tuesday - Class Discussion (Paris? ISIL/ISIS?/Deash?)
Wednesday - Slide Show Polishing/Perfecting
Thursday - Class Work - Finish Presentations
Week 2 - September 21-25 - ADVENTURE/HEROISM
This week we're going to begin digging into the course. We should be finishing up the first assignment, and moving onto number two, and so, you could say things are getting pretty serious. I hope to accomplish the following this week:
1. Cover the beauty of Humanities and How You Can Never be Wrong! (Math class can't claim that).
2. Class Discussion - we'll briefly talk about what makes a good class discussion, and then we'll give it a shot. Maybe we'll talk about Heroics? What would you like to talk about?
3. I'd also like to go over thesis construction and how they can make your life much easier, or much harder.
OK? See anything that appeals to you? Anything you want to see that isn't on here? Let me know.
Week 1 September 14-18 - WELCOME
This first week we will spend thinking and talking about 'Welcomes', both in relation to starting the new school year, to you joining us, as well as all of the 'welcomes' occurring across the globe right now. Can you think of a time when you either felt welcome or were made to feel unwelcome? How was that achieved?
